During the whole moving process, I was lucky enough to have both my mom, and a good friend/sorority sister, Jessi, from college help out! My mom was able to stay a week, and Jessi was able to stay two weeks with me before having to return to Virginia. My mom flew home out of Syracuse and since we had already made the 70 mile trek down to the airport in Syracuse, Jessi and I decided to stay for the afternoon and check out all that it had to offer!
Three words or is it one word--I guess that just depends on your own personal preference, but BAR-B-QUE. To be more specific amazing BBQ from Dinosaur Bar-B-Que located in downtown Syracuse.
Seriously, this was some GOOOOOOD Bar-B-Que and I am pretty picky about my Bar-B-Que. I was a little skeptic being that far North, but let me tell you, EVERYTHING, Jessi and I ate while we were having lunch was delicious. I think it may have been the best pulled pork I have ever had. If you are ever in Syracuse, stop by. You won't be disapointed!
After we had our fill of Bar-B-Que, we headed over to Syracuse University to check out where our sorority was founded. Like I mentioned earlier in the post, Jessi and I met through our amazing sorority Alpha Phi. Alpha Phi was founded at Syracuse University way back in 1872, and since we were near by we decided to go and check out the Alpha chapter of Alpha Phi.
Their chapter house was pretty amazing, but unfortunately we came the weekend of Recruitment and were not able to go inside to check out all of it's glory. Disclaimer: Jessi and I may or may not have been the creepy girls outside the house trying to take pictures discretely. :)
Before the cops were called about the two strange women just loitering outside the Alpha Phi House, we decided to head out of town to check out a few thrift stores. After we finished at the first one, and on the way to a second thrift shop, we came across the following:
Hobby Lobby and Wegman's!
When I first learned I was moving to New York, I immediately looked up the location of the nearest Wegman's (if you don't know about Wegman's--it is an amazing grocery store!) I was hoping there would be one near by, since it was founded in Rochester, New York. But much to my dismay, the nearest store is in a suburb outside of Syracuse, still 60 miles away! Wegman's if you are out there reading this blog, open up a store closer to me! PLEASE!!!! I will tell everyone I know in Carthage to go there (okay I know three people so far, but still, I will tell them, all three of them.)
Hobby Lobby was also located in the same shopping center, and so a trip inside was in order. To call it a craft store does not do it justice. It has crafts, but also home decor, and so much more! I loved it! I see many shopping trips down this way to get my Wegman's fix (well till they build one near me!) and to go to Hobby Lobby to get my craft on.
All in all, our afternoon excursion to Syracuse was a good time. I can't wait to go back down again to explore more of Syracuse and eat some more Dinosaur Bar-B-Que!
Hugs,
Caroline
Hi Caroline! I love your plug for Wegman's and how you'll tell your three friends. It reminds me of you wanting to write to Noodles and Company about opening a store in Newport News. I know soon you will be friends with everyone in town and really have influence!
ReplyDeleteYAY! for more posts! and yes, best.BBQ.ever!! loved it! We're definitely going back next time I come to visit! :) Can I go back to Carthage with you on Sunday?!?!
