To Paint or Not To Paint...

...that is the question! So I need some decorating advice, and I hope all of you out there will weigh in with your two cents on what I should do!

As most of you know I have recently moved into a new home, and that comes with the at most times the fun task of decorating and organizing! Long before I moved I found these wooden pillar candle holders on MAJOR clearance at Kohl's due to some scratches on the wood. See picture below:

My original plan was to paint them a black color, but I sort of like the distressed look the scratches give them. What do you all think? Do you like the look, or do you think it needs to be painted?

I know, I know the pictures are not that great, but hopefully they give you an idea. But when I bought these I had no idea where they would be going in our new home. I think I have found the perfect spot on our entertainment center, but the entertainment center is also a dark colored wood.  See picture below, and yes, maybe next time I will turn off the TV when I take a picture!

So then I was thinking maybe I should paint them a fun, vibrant color, or I could leave them  in their "distressed look" or I could paint them black? Any thoughts??? I will leave you with one final picture for you to ponder over what I should do!

Hugs,

Caroline

  1. What other accessories do you have in the room? I would paint them the same color as a pillow on the sofa or an accent color from a picture hung up on the wall. I think a pop of red would be pretty!

  3. Thanks all! I have nothing yet on the walls or throw pillows....so maybe I will wait till I figure out what I am going to be putting on the walls, get some pillows, and then paint away! Red sounds good though!

  4. Yes, definitely go with some color! Since the tv console is dark as well, a bright, bold tone will help make them pop in the room. I faced the same dilema with my living room... no throw pillows, nothing on the walls yet... what colors should I match? Start collecting (hello, Pinterest!) photos, magazine cut outs, or fabric swatches of patterns and colors you love/would like the put in the room, that'll help give you an idea of the colors that will (hopefully soon) fill the room. Since fabric can be expensive, and filling a room can be an on-going, lengthy process (8 months and my living room is still not done, haha) and if you're like me, I have zero patience! By gathering ideas, you'll quickly narrow down the colors you know you want, and can run out and buy some paint or a can of spray paint in a similar hue (for under $5) for a quick, burst of color!

    1. Thanks Katlyn! It makes me feel a little better, that I have not hung a single picture yet. I keep telling myself that I am waiting till Shaun get's home, or till I figure out a color scheme/plan. I like your idea of the color/fabric swatches. I guess I have to keep telling myself that Rome was not built in a day, so my room decorating will be a process!
