A Trip Back to High School...

This past Friday I ventured back to a place I have not been to in quite a few years...my high school! Well to be technical, my secondary school, since I did go there from 7th-12th grade. Good Ole Lake Braddock Secondary School! Now I didn't go to pretend I was back in high school again, or sing the fight song (which by the way, I still know!) though there are some days where I do feel like I just graduated, and it hard to believe that I graduated in 2003! Where does the time go???  There was a purpose to this trip...it was to go and see the high school musical...Annie Get Your Gun!

The night started off with grabbing dinner with two high school friends, Jesci and Sara, at Spartans.  Spartan's is a Greek restaurant right down the road from Lake Braddock and we thought it would be a great place to grab a quick dinner before the show.  Plus we use to go there occasionally in high school, so when you are going back to high school, you got to live it up like you did going to all the old joints in the neighborhood! Who knew that at a quarter to six that the place would be packed! I guess that is a testament to the good food, and also that the majority of the diners there might be in the early bird special club.  :)  We had a great dinner, and then it was time to head back to High School!

Now a little background on Jesci and Sara. We were all in chorus together back in high school as well as our good friend Kira who lives down in Atlanta! The four of  became fast friends during an infamous "my personals" incident with Sara during a summer choral trip to Germany and The Czech Republic. We had many more memorable choral moments and trips throughout high school, and we all still keep in touch!   Jesci and I were never in any Lake Braddock High School Musicals, but Sara and Kira were and we thought it would be fun to go and check out the Lake Braddock Musical scene circa 2014!

I had never seen Annie Get Your Gun, and had no idea that the songs, "There is no Business like Show Business," and "Anything You Can Do," were from that show.  The students did an excellent job with the show, and it was fun to explore our old high school even though we weren't able to explore too much since they had it gated off.  A little plug for high school plays and musicals: you really should go and check them out when your local high school has one. It is a great way to support students in your community, and it a lot cheaper than going to the theater to see a show.  Plus the kids work so hard on it, and they usually do a fabulous job.  Even when I was living up in New York and had no connection to the local high school I would go. Geez, I even dragged Shaun to one of the musicals just a week after he came home from his last deployment!

Anyone else go and see any good plays or musicals lately? How about visiting your old high school?

Hugs,

Caroline
