In case you didn't already know or realize, I am an Army wife, and live near an Army post in New York. The other day while driving onto the post, there was a long line of cars due to only one lane being open to check ID's for access to the post. As I was about to get in the one lane that was open, one of the nice Military Policemen or better known as MP's flagged me over to another lane.
I thought to myself how lucky I was that I didn't have to wait in the 10+ row of cars, and I rolled down my window and handed him my ID. He then proceeded to tell me that I had been randomly selected, and I thought my luck was continuing! No joke, my first thoughts were that I had been selected for some prize, or that I was the 1000th car of the day and was about to receive something special! I have NO clue why I would think that (maybe too much Price is Right, or maybe i am just hoping one day I will win something!??!) but alas there was no prize and the only thing I had won....
...was a random inspection of my car! I was seriously let down by the news from the MP, and I think I asked him two (okay, three times) that they just wanted to inspect my car and that was it?
When telling my husband the story later about how I thought I had won something from the MP's at the gate he couldn't help but laugh at me, and ask me what in the world I had thought they would be giving away. I don't know coupons, a free drink, something??? Can't a girl hope it will be her lucky day to win something?
I guess the lesson learned from this is most likely when an MP tells you you have been randomly selected you are not about to win a prize or get a coupon! At least I will know next time! :)
Hugs,
