Welcome to the North Country --Part Two

One year ago to the day, I had my first ever encounter with the North Country!  Let me say I was a little underwhelmed my first day to the North Country. Good thing, I am a big believer in second chances, as well as looking for the good in every place.

I had flown to Syracuse to spend ten days with my then fiance, Shaun, and check out the area where we would eventually live. There is a nice little bus that takes you from Syracuse Airport to Watertown, all for just $15! If you ever feel like coming to visit, I promise I won't make you take the bus, but it wasn't bad!  You could make some really cool bus friends!

Well since I knew I was going to be getting in that evening, I had done a little research online before about restaurants nearby, where Shaun and I could grab a bite to eat. I read some GREAT reviews about a nearby Mexican Restaurant online. I was excited that there was a good Mexican restaurant in The North Country. I would soon find out, maybe I shouldn't trust online reviews. That Mexican restaurant was a MAJOR let down. It was horrible! I couldn't even eat my dinner. And all I could think of if people from the North Country thought this was good Mexican, they must be crazy....or have never been to Plaza!

Side Note: Plaza was the Mexican restaurant of choice in college, and I would have to say that my friends and I would dine there at least once a week in college. Shaun also shares my love of Mexican food, and when we began dating, we also continued going to Plaza. Plaza is awesome Mexican food, and if you are ever in the Hampton Roads area, you should check them out!

From the horrible Mexican restaurant we then went to where we would call home for the next ten days. The lovely Microtel Inn! Also did I mention there was like over a foot of snow on the ground? Yep, it was cold, wet and snowy.  After our awful dinner, I just wanted to go and relax. Now the hotel was not bad, it was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the room was SMALL! Seriously the bed took up the majority of the room, and it had this weird mirrored wall thing going on. I have no idea who ever thought that was a good idea.

Do you see the mirror wall? Strange, Right?

Let's just say that my first day was not the best in the North Country. But the next ten days I started to see that The North Country would not be a horrible place to live, and every place has something special about it. Now I am not yet on this whole snow/winter for 8 months band wagon, but not everyone can see they have lived in the North Country, (and survived!) can they?

Hugs,

Caroline
